The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen solicits applications for a
W2-Professorship in Observational Astrophysics (Tenure Track)
in the area of Dark Energy Research. The professorship has been created as part
of the Excellence Cluster "Origin and Structure of the Universe"
(http://www.universe-cluster.de/). This Research Cluster has been established
within the framework of the German Excellence Initiative, in cooperation with
the Technische Universitaet Muenchen, the Max-Planck-Institutes for
Astrophysics, Extraterrestrial Physics and the European Southern Observatory.
The successful applicant will be able to establish and lead a research group
which studies the nature of Dark Energy, e.g., with the large-scale
distribution of galaxies or with the gravitational lensing effect. He/she is
expected to participate in the activities of the Excellence Cluster and in the
Astrophysics teaching program. Collaboration in one or several of imminent or
planned large survey projects (KIDS, Pan-STARRS, eROSITA, HETDEX) is
particularly welcomed. For detailed inquiries, please contact Prof. Ralf Bender
(bender@usm.lmu.de).
Conditions for employment are habilitation or equivalent scientific
qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude. Upon appointment, the
successful candidate should be less than 52 years old, exceptions are possible
under special circumstances.
The faculty intends to increase the number of women in teaching and research;
women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Handicapped persons with the
same qualifications will be given preference.
Informative application documents (academic records, description of scientific
interests and planned research activities, publication list etc) should be
submitted before October 15, 2007 to the
